West Virginia Ski Resorts: 21-22 Lift Rate Roundup

Snow dropping in November is my cue that if I haven’t made my annual lift rate roundup, I need to. This year I am outlining ski lift rates by state! I’ve also done some digging to include any late-season deals such as multi-day pack options for skiers and snowboarders, which are great for those that missed the Spring Season Pass sales earlier in the year.

Of course, it’s extremely opportunistic to purchase passes early to get the best rates on skiing and snowboarding this winter. If you haven’t done that, you’re looking at super-high season pass prices and will probably consider lift ticket rates or any package deals instead. This table is for you – I’ve been there many, many times.

Dynamic Pricing

Let’s talk about what most resorts are doing this year: dynamic pricing for daily lift tickets. Basically how this works is you will purchase your lift ticket online and prices will fluctuate from the rack rate based on demand. For example, popular weekends will be priced higher than a “regular” weekend, however, you will also see a price difference in Saturday vs Sunday based on 1.) past demand trends and 2.) how many tickets have already been purchased. Basically, you want to take a look and book early rather than waiting until the last minute to decide your fate (and your ticket price). For the rates listed in my Lift Rate Roundup chart below, if marked dynamic that means I went in today, 11/28 and looked at a holiday rate (NYE/NYD) to get that price.

Check out this screenshot of Snowshoe’s dynamic pricing structure for December. Note the fluctuations during holiday week. This pricing is simply subject to change.

Top West Virginia Resorts to Ride

If I had to tell you where to ski in West Virginia, my top 3 recommendations are:

  1. Snowshoe is where you want to be for the weekend.
  2. Timberline is old-school cool but all 3 ski areas in Tucker County, WV are IT!
  3. Wisp is most likely the closest mountain to you, and you’ll need to get their Mission: FOUR’DABLE deal!! $239 through Nov 29 (Now Dec 19) ONLY for 4 transferrable tickets ($59.75 ea.)

Notable Mention – Drive to PA! Here are all the lift rates. Seven Springs and Hidden Valley are worth the drive (Springs has a good apres and park scene, Hidden Valley is beginner friendly and family oriented), although Wisp is probably the best for your buck.

Chart Key & Notes

  • Peak Rates = Full price adult full-day lift ticket on a holiday or weekend unless noted
  • Multi Card = this is any card that allows you to go to the resort on multiple non-consecutive days. Can be either transferrable or non-transferrable to others (this is not a 2 or 3-day lift ticket).
  • LLR = Lift, Lesson, Rental or Learn-to-Ski/Snowboard package. This is a good learn-to package that usually includes a full-day lift ticket (sometimes to beginner-only lifts), rental equipment and a group lesson. Every resort will have this deal!

(!) Regional Resort Swap Alert! Wisp Resort Season Pass Holders and Unlimited Pass Holders at Seven Springs, Hidden Valley and Laurel Mountain will each receive one (1) complimentary full-day lift ticket and a 50% discount on regularly priced ski tickets for additional visits to any of the other four participating resorts, excluding Saturdays and holiday / premium periods. Visit their pass pages to learn more.
